Hitting An Approach Shot Over Water – Tips For Golfers

The approach shot is one of the most important shots that you need to perfect as a player, considering that it is the shot that you get to play that lands you on to the green. You can learn this for a fact; that not so many golfers love to have to pitch over water. It does not matter whether you are playing the full shot or whichever kind of shot, but having to play it over the water is not something that you would fancy. However, in most cases we don’t always get to choose what we want to achieve, right? And this is one of the main reasons why you need to learn how to run the perfect approach shot over water.

With this shot, one of the most important things that you have to understand is the fact that you need to emphasize on your target, instead of the water. Of course the water will be a distraction and this is the entire premise to this shot. As soon as you let yourself get distracted by the water, there is a very good chance that you will not get a good shot at the ball.

When you are about to hit his shot, the first and the only thing that should be on your mind should be the spot on the green where you want to land the shot. Everything else other than that is a waste of your time.

Turning through the shot

One of the most common mistakes that we make when we are hitting the approach over water is to normally stop turning. This is a rookie mistake, especially with the common reason being a lack of confidence or being afraid.

When you are playing this shot, focus on nothing other than the shot. Have all your energy and ideas focused on one thing only, this shot. The moment you make the mistake of stopping the turning motion or choosing to hit the ball with your hands instead, you will end up hitting the ball either thin or fat.

Strike down on the ball

One of the other mistakes that so many players make when they are hitting this shot is that they get so afraid and attempt to lift the ball out of the water, instead of striking down on it. Scooping the ball will only get you a fat shot instead.
